The 52mm nikon 3t achromatic +1.5 diopterclose-up lens lets you focus from about 20" away from the subject throughout the zoom. From that distance the fz5 af assist can be relied upon to get good focus and there is no danger of camera shadow from the onboard flash. The phlox was at 8x; St Francis at 5x zoom.

Thanks, Bridget. B&H Photohas both the nikon 3t and 4t for $37 each. The 4t at +3 diopter is twice as powerful as the +1.5 diopter 3t and is probably the more versatile lens. The 4t focuses from about 1 foot away while the 3t focuses from about 2 feet. For onboard flash shots such as these, that added distance can be important since the chances of camera shadow are greatly reduced and the af assist has a better chance of getting good focus, IMO. Many people get both lens and combine (stack)the two for a total magnification power of 4.5 diopter. They both have 52mm front and rear threads. For the fz5 you will need a 55-52mm stepdown ring - another $7 at b&h.
