To be honest with you guys , I'm pretty disappointed with the samples...
White parts are constantly overexposed in all of the pictures, loss of detail, lack of sharpness in some, the colors aren't so vivid...
I'll wait for the review to be posted , it could be just the photographer.
Maybe some Steve or Phil will give me a reason good enough to make me want to do the upgrade, as I personally, could get by just fine without those other improvements...

Thank you Amiroquai

I have examined the pics, of most of them I have visualized the full 3,5Mb jpg (Phil could at least rotate the portrait position shots).

My opinion on the images:

- Noise at ISO 80 is definitively less than FZ20
(see the OOF parts or the sky).
The algorithm of NR is more aggressive but perhaps also better than that of FZ20 (perhaps inherited from the FZ5 one).
The full 8Mp pics are certainly soft, but even in dSLR cams or G6 and similarthey are soft at full ersolution.

- Noise at ISO 160 (7thpic, in bar) is bad: it would have been verygood for a ISO 400, already scarce for a SIO 200, but it is ISO 160 ! The effect of NR above ISO 100 seems patchy. But with 8Mp you can crop resize more, so the final effect will be at least as good as on FZ10-20 if not better.

- WB and colors seems definitively better than FZ20.
I have not seen those bad yellow casts and the yellowish hues in the grass and trees. very good. S oone could also achieve more saturation setting the in cam parameter to High, without fearing to makethe situation worse (as on FZ20).

Considering the features, I think this is fairly a better camera than FZ10-20.
Withless issues than the latter ones and far less than S2IS (CA, PF are low).

Ithink FZ40 will be very similar to this FZ30, perhaps 9 or same 8 Mp, with some buttons and featuresmore. But having a FZ20 since December 2004, I think I 'll wait for the next model, although I really wish I had a FZ30 (bad non manual WBs on FZ20 is really the most boring thing).

I think this cam is going to sell very much if they do some advs like Canon with 350D/XT!

Yeah, that's really bad. And interesting, because the FZ30 does not have ISO 160.

In Auto ISO mode FZ's often pick ISO speeds that are unavailable through the menu. Perhaps that is what happened with that shot.

Well before we all go dismiss the FZ30 as having horrible noise problems, lets wait until a full production model is out. Perhaps they still haven't gotten everything worked out...

Well, lets hope the final product will ahve better image quality...
