I want to get a teleconverter lens and was thinking of this (Olympus Tcon 1.7):

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...t&v=glance

I noticed that there is also a a Tcon-17c and I have heard before about the tcon-17b but I am not sure if this is the one as they call it Tcon-1.7x

Will this work with my FZ-20?. Currently I have a Phayee adapter, so whatI want to know is if this lens will work with it and what (if any) adapters rings I may need.

Thanks for any help.

Cheers

The "C" has a different connector. You need the TCON-17.

That is the one you want as it has the 55mm threads ...the C model uses a bayonet mount.

And you will need a 62mm to 55mm stepdown ring.

such as

Or better yet is a 62mm to 55mm Flat thread converter

I am wondering now if I should get the 14B instead. I understand that I need no adapter to screw it into the Phayee.

And I saw some comparisons, the amount of magnification with the 17 is not that much more than the 14B and the 17 has vignetting issues to amuch greater extent that the 14B.

The 14B seems to cost a bit more though.....

the 14B will screw directly onto a Phayee or other adapter wit 62mm threads. the 14B is 1.45x, compared to 1.7x for the 17, although by most accounts, the TCON-17 is closer to 1.6x. the other advantages of the 14B are less chromatic aberration (purple fringing), and it has threads on the objective end for filters, etc. the TCON-17 does not. i consdered both, and bought the TCON-14B. it's heavier, but i thing it's a better lens. i can personally attest to thefact thatthe 17 is much worse than the 14B in terms of purple fringing...

The Tcon 17 is a fine lens but the 14B is better without a doubt.

There is no step ring needed with the Phayeee and the 14B

And the Tcon17 vignettes to about 6X while the 14B only vignettes to 3X.

Its your call ..I have 2 of each and use them all.

I pretty much came to the same conclusion after seing some of the comparisons around the net. I am now bidding on some 14B's on eBay.
