Yes on the external flash. Most people here (as well as I) have the Sunpak 383. You'll get away doing the promo shots with the FZ20 but Im not sure about club shots since it will be very dark (if you want low light shots).

Hard stuff if light is seriously lacking.

I have had good experiences with well enlightened stages and alsowith less luminous ones (ISo 200 even without flash).

Set the Saturation to LOW in order to diminish magenta color casts on skins and use Flash WB with flash (and a couple of tags towards blue in FINE Tune) or MAnual WB (again with a little bit of blue fine tune).
Shooting at 5Mp will give you good screen size shots, even without NR software.

Also it is important to play a bit with metering (CW or Spot).

Here I attach some pics I made in Italy (few known "Elio e le Storie Tese" and "Bregovic") both bands playing in the night.

With FZ20 mostly ISO 200 no flash

I have more but they exceed the 244Kb file size. This was just to show what FZ20 can do (I was near the stage in both occasions and not very interested in the music, only experimenting with my cam after 2 excursions in the mountains)
