Off to Vancouver for a few weeks on 18th September and was wondering is there anything I should go to see.

Got lots of photo's from Turkey from the past 4 months so it will be a nice change to get out of the heat.

Also going to San Francisco and Vegas and can't wait to take some night shots there.

There is a nice park there with huge totem poles etc. but I forget its name....
Also just the skyline is very beautiful with the mountains behind!

If you have time take a ferry to Vanvouver Island as you sometimes see seals and even whales!

BC is a wonderfully scenic place. I hope to visit there again sometime now that I have my Pana!!!

The park Jussiac is talking about is called Stanley Park and is located on the ocean front. It 's nice just to wonder through the park and see its natural beauty, take the Sea Wall walk, lots of photo ops. There is a great acquarium located in the park. From the park you can see the Lion Gates Bridge which connects Vancouver to North Vancouver and is very similar to San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge. The science centre and planetarium are also worth a look. Granville Island has a wonderful market with lots of arts, crafts, fresh fruit and sea food, it is also the home of the Emily Carr School of Art. If your into gardening, the Devonian Gardens are nice as well the University of British Columbia Botanical Gardens our outstanding. Another good tourist area is called Gastown, lots to see and do there. For some shots of real cool architecture have a look at the Pacific Pavilion which is close to Gastown. These are just a few suggestions of many things to see and do. Vancouver is a great city. You'll also probably notice that they are gearing up for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Have a great trip and look forward to seeing some of your images.

There is a big fire ( 160 ha) in "Burns Bog" in the suburb of Delta. A lot of smoke is being generated over the Greater Vancouver area. Other than smoke and ash it should provide some impressive sunrise/sunset shots.

If you get the chance try to make it up Grouse Mountain for some remarkable vistas over Vancouver. http://www.grousemountain.com

The Capilano Suspension Bridge is also a mustsee. http://www.capbridge.com

I agree with the previous posts, and would like to add a couple of things. Check out the Capilano Suspension Bridge. Great old growth trees and some cool scenery. Simon Fraser University in Burnaby has some very cool concrete architecture which makes for spectacular shots. You can also see some great mountains from SFU (I'm there every day...trust me on this one). As previously suggested, Granville Island is one of the coolest spots here, especially for taking pictures of people doing cool things. Enjoy your visist here.

As a side note, the burns bog fire (only a few km from my house) is huge now, and almost all of vancouver is is a haze. Hopefully it clears up a bit for your visit.

I didn't see that the cap. supsension bridge was already suggested. Sorry. Also, I want to add that a trip down to Steveston would be worthwhile (it's in Richmond, about 30 minutes away from vancouver). You can go on a whale watching tour for about $100 CDN each, and get some great shots of Orcas.

You might want to make the trip up the Sea-To-Sky highway to Wistler/Blackcomb (http://www.whistlerblackcomb.com). It's not just a ski resort there is tons of things to do in the summer.

If you're going to be there for a few weeks then I'd also take a ferry (http://www.bcferries.com/)trip over to Vancounver Island. Things to see are:

Pacific Rim National Park (http://www.pc.gc.ca/pn-np/bc/pacificrim/index_e.asp) and town of Tofino

Buchart Gardens (http://www.butchartgardens.com/main.php) in Victoria

Downtown Victoria and Inner Harbour area

Englishman River Falls http://wlapwww.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/exp...s/englishm.htmand Little Qualicum Falls (http://wlapwww.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/exp...pgs/little.htm)Provincial Parks in Parksville

If you want night shots of downtown, take a sea bus over to North Vancouver, and walk 1 or 2 blocks west. You'll find a green field. Go there, setup your tripod, andcapture the night shots and see reflections off the water.
