I think this is a Monarch Butterfly. There are less & less of them around these days it seems. I found it feeding in a Mexican Bird of Paridise tree at the public library.

very nice! i have some shots of Monarchs, including one blown up to 11x14 and hanging in my kitchen, but they weren't taken in the wild... we don't have Monarchs around here much except in butterfly exhibits. i envy folks like you who get to see them in their natural habitat!

Nice photos Charles. You don't see them very often because the Monarch migrates through Texas on their waynorth into Canada from Old Mexico in the spring and back in the fall. They are all over the place today in Abilene TX and will probably be getting thicker in Austin as the days go by.

Thanks to all !* Looking forward to seeing more of them......As far as image size, I use photobucket and it seems that whatever size file I upload, gets cut in half by them. I will keep trying til I get it right !

You'll have to post one at a time, but Steve's allows you up to 250 KB which is over 800X600.
