A short rest in the dunes (Sylt): Regulus regulus (ger. Wintergoldhaehnchen)
This is the first time that I needed a close up lens for birds: FZ5 Mcon40
Four of these birds have the weight of a standard letter in germany.

Nice shots! You could get right up on them. I guess you could almost pick them up and hold them in your hand.

Have you seen us, fred?
My son held one of these in his hands, but he was happy to find a lavatory nearby afterwards! I guess these birds had just arrived after a journey across the ocean.
They are not shy anyway.

Great shots seemolf.

Been watching them in the garden but they don't stay still long enough to take a photo let alone be that close.

WOW! You know, I tried to photogram these guys last weekend, but all I got was some small blurred object in the middle of frame. And you say that they are not shy? You must be very charming person then :G
Your pictures are simply outstanding (especially knowing how small they are)! #5 should be in bird books! :-)

thanks for the nice comments!
Next day all the roses in the dunes were crowded with these birds.
They were quite close (not shy) but extremely busy.
So this is another - being at the right time at the right location - story!
