jcr, I know this isn't the "best" external flash for the FZ30 but I'm using the Canon Speedlite420 EZ, and have had good luck with it ! You just have to block all but the center connector, (on the flash unit). Jim

Not sure about the FZ30 but Genece's recommendation, the Sunpak 383 worked just prefectly with all of the older FZ cams and its basically the standard flash unit used by most ppl here.

Check out DR Shene's FZ10 user guide as he's got a very good section on external flashes.

Thanks,

I also have a Sunpak 422 ( very similar to 383 I think...no ? can anyone point diferences ?)to my FZ20, only was trying to figure if it exists a evolution to FZ30 (TTL maybe)...

On a quality basis, is there anything better ? (money apart) Is the Pana flash any better in any way ?

The 422 is very similar to the 383 and will work fine on the FZ30. The panasonic flash is no better than the Sunpaks and the FZ30 is not TTL.

I just came back from shooting Halloween pictures of my great granddaughter and the 383 worked well.

Some where on that link Harjtt gave you CK mentions 2 flashes more powerfull than the 383 but also much more expensive...I can not remember the numbers or find where he mentions them but I have seen it there somewhere.

Hi All

Anyone used the Sunpak Auto36SR? Or does anyone know of a link to any info on it?

It seems to be quite a large flash. How does it compare to the 383?

Thanks in advance.

It appears to be exactly the same as the 383...

Thanks for the link

Now i know it exists and not just my imagination. Still cant find the trigger voltage. It is a christmas present from my girlfriend so I will have to convincer her to let me look at the manual.

Performance wise is it worse than the 383?

Thanks Again

The manual will not tell you the trigger voltage or at least I never saw a manual that did.

Maybe an Email to sunpak or if you got it at a store that stocks them maybe they would check the voltage for you. Easily done with a voltmeter

But if its a new model I would almost bet its safe to use.

And the guide number is the same as the 383 so the power is the same.
