Hey all
im lucky enough to bring homean fz5 before i decide which camto purchase. I just want to know is the noise levels from the fz5 at iso 400 higher or lower than the expected noise from the fz30????

This is the only thing that really turns me away is the thought of buying this cam and having unusable indoor shots filled with noise.

IMHO.. the noise level of the 2 cameras are very similar ..I think the FZ30 handles it a little better in that, I believe it is less appearant at full screen or on a 8 X 10 print.

One thing... If you use the flash, which the FZ30 flash is much better and also has the ability to handle an external flash there will be no noise.

If the size and price is not a concern to you, the FZ30 is one fine camera.

using the flash will not eliminate noise. it MAY, in certain situations, reduce it by providing better illumination, but just using a flash won't make it go away.

from what i've seen, the noise levels of the FZ30 are about the same as those produced by the FZ5/FZ20. noise is largely a function of pixel density, and while the '30 does use a larger sensor, it also crams more pixels on it, so the pixel density is almost identical to the earlier models. frankly, i think Panasonic missed the boat by making the '30 an 8MP camera. they could have made it a 6MP model, which would still be ample for the "bigger image crowd", but would have lowered pixel density - and noise - substantially compared to the FZ5/20.
