How do you all use the one-shot autofocus switch on the lens barrel?

I read about it once, but have forgotten the technique and uses for it over the regular autofocus half-press of the shutter button.

Thanks!

in manual focus mode, simple compose the shot, press down on the auto/manual focus selector till you get a focus lock indication, then release the switch. it's spring-loaded, and will return to the manual focus position automatically. it's handy if you're having trouble getting a clear focus manually, or want to use the AF for a particular shot while taking the rest in MF mode.
