B&H sent me a message stating that the remote shutter release for the FZ30 has been discontinued. Any one know of this and/or another product?

Normc,

B&H may know something that even the Panasonic Parts website doesn't know. But...

If you look at my posting near the end of the following thread, it describes the steps necessary to order the remote directly from Panasonic.

I'd be very surprised if the remote has been discontinued.

Or you could build one

Here's a Schematic I got from another forum and redrew on AutoCad. It works just fine on my FZ30.

Question for JMK1964 - being new to electronics, I am puzzled by your schematics of the remote :

Does it need a battery to operate, and if so what size and voltage? Also where in the schematics should I wire the battery?

Many thanks in advance for your reply.

It doesn't need a battery, the camera senses the change of resistance on pins 3 and 4 of the 2.5mm jack. The jack plugs into the remote input on the camera.

44k no buttons pressed

5K (a) button pressed ---focus---

2k (b) button pressed ---shutter---

If you are going to build one make sure you use a 4 pole jack. If you don't you could damage the camera!!!!

Heres what the finished product looks like

I ordered the Wired Shutter Remote Controller from Panasonic's E Shop here in the UK (VYC0913) the other day. It cost me £14.36 including £1 postage. Unfortunately, I had to send the packet back to the Spares Dept because when I opened it, it contained a Kneading Blade! I'm hoping that they really do have the proper part in stock.

They did have it in stock, and it's on its way.
