I have been asked to shoot candids at a local rodeo event and need some advice. They plan on using the pictures for a web site to show how the event turnout was and may use some in adds. Do I have to get any releases or because they bought a ticket to the event and the people using the pictures are the host of the event is no release needed. I will not be paid as such other than getting to go to the event.

I may also be asked to shoot some of the contestants.

During the event if someone ask me to take their picture and they will pay me for it if I will send it to them. Do I have to get a release for that.

I don't know in which country are you living, this data should be useful. Laws may vary in different countries.

If you are in Cuba, or any other comunist country, you probably will have problems while getting paid for the shoots, :G

However, if the pictures are taken during a public event, you should have no any problem, and you won't need a release.

I don't know very well the laws in USA, but I understand that in USA you won't have any problem, because it isa public event, so you won't need any release.

Please anybody correct me if I'm wrong.

The rule is all pictures can be displayed and sold if they are of rodeo performers even if the audience appears in the background. Pictures of people in the audience can also be displayed but cannot be sold without their written permission.

So with that said.

Random shots of the crowd. Will they be able to use them on the web site as advertisement? Do I need a release from the people in the shots? I want to be clear.

I think LoveLife is correct if you isolate a single person or two, but if there are numerous people, or a picture of the crowd, then you wouldn't need releases from any or all of these persons. Jim

A lot of stationary stores, Staples, Office Max etc, carry various legal forms. You may find one there or do a search on Google for one. Jim
