I went out to the lake yesterday and got these shots. White is blown on pelican but I always do that. Any help is welcome. Pelican was way out and had to crop photo, then I forgot antd resized it for thye forum. Don

it's pretty hard not to blow the highlights when your cam is metering on the background instead of the bird... and you can't exactly keep the crosshairs on a moving bird long enough for the FZ to focus and accurately judge the light! the only thing i might try in that circumstance is to knock the EV down a notch or two, but it's sometimes tough to tell when you'll get an opportunity that will need that, and if you wait till the chance comes, a shot like this will be gone before you can change the settings!

very nice capture... looks almost like he's water-skiing! :lol: nice sunset pic, too...

Thanks, I got the complete sequence ( 14 shots) of it landing, using continuous mode. Clicking through the sequance real fast is neat to watch. Don
