The RAW optioncertainly comes in handy to manipulate images where the original contrast and white balance were off. Here is an example. Before:

...and after. Other than fixing the white balance, contrast, saturation etc. in the CS2 RAW plug-in, I also ran it through Neat Image to soften the skin.

I think this is the final straw on the camel's back that sold me on the camera . Now, I just have to dig up $500... anyone want to donate to my cause?

It definitely is warm and saturatedbutwhether it is too much is a matter of taste. It could also be your monitor settings. I hadthe NVIDIA"digital vibrance" setting on my monitor that I took off because images were way to saturated and contrasty. But in any case, even if I overdid it in the second picture, the point I was making is how much control using the RAW feature gives one withoutlosing image quality due to compression.

I'd love to contribute, but I have three little boys to feed. Treat yourself for Xmas. I think Panasonic should give me a commission if you buy it.

Hehehe, tell you what. If they give you a comission, you have to give half it back to me to help cover the cost of the camera . But seriously... this gift to myself is going to wait til at least May when school gets out. But I'm drooling already.

By that time, you can probably get an FZ30 for about $400. Hope you can hang in there until then. Happy Holidays!

Waiting I S like doing time in jail...(i'm guessing:lol but worth the discipline! I waited, and waited...and W A I T E D for this camera. But really worth it. The good news is that you will not only get a great camera, like our friend said, it will likely be cheaper! Best regards,
