Please tell us about the technique.
This is a bit too close, can you improve DOF?
But the light and colours are fine, so go on!

depth of field; i.e. the area in a photo which will appear in focus, can be changed by changing the aperture priority (f-stop)...i'm new to this, someone correct me if i'm wrong or missing anything!

sorry: depth of field, our old problem with macros. Small sensors and smaller apertures help - f:8, f:11. It is a shame, that we cannot choose the aperture in macro settings. I am using macro settings only in 12* zoom - focussing up to 70cm , switching to aperture mode afterwards -> f:8.

Thanks, but I wanted blured background, to focus attention on flower.

I will try to play with settings next time

Very nice job especially for a first. You could have gotten the entire flower in focus but I don't mind it the way it is. Sometimes it adds a little interest to the picture.

Nice attempt esp for a first attempt - I agree with Sven and the others about gettign eth entire flower into the frame.
