I always have a skylight filter with anti-reflective coating attached. Softens the FZ30's slight tendency toward blue and it protects the lens. I also recommend a linear polarizer. Then, depending on your budget, you might want to get some macro lenses, like the Nikon 4t for magnification of close-ups. I got the 55/52 CRing because all my filters and lens add-ons have a 52 mm thread, including the Raynox DCR6600 wide angle lens, which I can also highly recommend. But if you start fresh, you should just get everything in 55mm. Hope that helps.

Oh, one more thing, I also just received an infrared filter, but so far have no idea yet how to use it. Does anyone know? To me it just seems super dark.

Most any filter will work I would suggest a muticoated filter and either MC or UV or I guess the skylight filter.

This is a good filter

Also I find a Polarizer and ND filters useful.

And rduve The FZ 30 will do IR but nowhere near as well as the FZ1 did, maybe you can find some info here
