Well, I don't own a FZ5 but you guys should read the manuals for your cameras because in there almost everything is explained.
In my FZ30's manual tis written many times and many examples give when the camera makes a certain noise and states whether that is a malfunction or not. And, my guess is that if it's now written in there, then, probably, that is a malfunction.
I don't know if this was of much help...

Hey, if you find anything in the FZ5 manual, please share it. I've read the manual twice and haven't seen any reference to the sounds we are discussing here.

The manual does clearly explain that the simulated shutter volume can be adjusted, but what I am noticing is a volume that varies ALL BY ITSELF, for no apparent reason.

I haven't read anything about a seemingly loose lens (although it's been mentioned in reviews).

Dude, don't get snotty! I was merely trying to point out that various sounds that the camera makes are described in the manual and that if they aren't decribed there then they're probably malfunctions.
That's no reason for you to get sharp.
Best of luck!

P.S. 'offence' is written with double 'f'. Learn your English and practice your manners.

Your use of the word "mearly" is actually spelled "merely" :-)

I think we all just want to help each other here. I'm thankful for this forum, as it fills in the grey that one cannot learn from a book or a manual. In this case, Nachos owns the same camera as I do, and this forum enables us to network and share our technical issues. Let's be friends.

Hi, I have Fz30 and there is some sound, but I 99% that this is IS. Try set camera for play mode, and than this sound is stoped (IS is turnd off - my opinion). I don't care about this "sound".

kreciu, all the sounds that the FZ30 makes are described in the manual, like are those of the FZ5, I presume.

The following is taken from page 112 of a UK manual for the FZ5

5: The camera will make sounds caused
by internal mechanical movement
when it is shaken.
• The sound arises when the lens moves.
This is not a malfunction.
6:When the zoom lever is rotated, the
camera makes a noise.
•When the zoom function is activated,
you may hear some sound from the
camera or the camera may shake.
However, it is not a malfunction.

I have an FZ5 and when i first got it,like you I was a little worried but now I know this sound is normal I don't give it a second thought.

Thanks! Think I'll have to read that manual better.
