This is the first of my orchids to bloom this Winter. It's a Dendrobium hybrid called "Ekapol Panda #2". I'm so glad to see a nice spot of colour like this, in the middle of Winter.

I'll have more orchids coming into bloom over the next couple of months and might post images of them here, now and again...

Great shot Doug! I take it you have your own greenhouse? Jim

Thanks for your comments everyone!

Jim, no greenhouse... maybe one day! All my orchids (probably about 100 of them) are in a dedicated plant room upstairs, on shelving units equipped with fluorescent plant lights, supplemented by some natural light through the window. The plants thrive there and I don't have to do anything special environment-wise, save for timing the lights to match daylight hours (e.g. longer days in Summer, shorter in Winter).

Really nice flowers - it's amazing that you can have such beautiful flowers in the winter in Quebec. With 100 plants, do you sometimes find it difficult just to leave the room when there's a blizzard outside?
