Very nice photo, excellent framing too. Don't mistake me for thisquestion, any idea why it is named purple finch? (I don't see any purple in this photo).

Raghu, I've been trying toget a picture of the male Purple Finch andif I can ever geta decent one, you'llsee how they got the name. The male isa very pretty color and looks like he took a swim in raspberry juice. Hopefully I can get a shot of a male soon and I'll post it here. Thanks for your comment!

Bejoweth: Nice shot. Looking forward to your shot of the male.

Raghu,

Until such time as bejoweth is able to grace us with a picture of a male purple finch, you might check out this website:

http://www.roysephotos.com/PurpleFinch.html

You will see that it is not truly "purple", but bejoweth's description as "a swim in rasberry juice" comes pretty close...

These are beautiful pictures of the male Purple Finch. I think they're soooo pretty, and easy todistinguish when they're in with a group of male House Finches.

We do get some of the finches here about 20 miles southwest of Baton Rouge. Each year we get house finches, goldfinches, titmouse, and chick-a-dees. We may have gotten the purple finch and thought it was the house finch. But in 2003, we had a bird come to the feeders we had never seen before. I will add a few photos of it I took with my Olympus C700. I hope to see it again to try to get closer with the FZ-30.
