I got my FZ30 today and have not had any time to test it so far.

What should I do and not do right off the bat to get decent results from those with more experience with this camera ?

Thank you for your time and I hope this is the one I have been looking for

Simple answer to a simple question...read the basic how to's in the manual, check for batt life, flash card...set to "P" and start shooting. P setting will let you experiment, get the feel of the camera...then move on. Read about all the menus and settings browse thru the forum...rinse and repeat.
