Finally got out to shoot w/new FZ30. Thought I would kill 2 Birds etc.. with this first post. I thought the attached shot has some nice curves but I would really appreciate some comments as to focus and other technical comments. I do not have Photoshop yet so how could it help w/PP. Thanks

I like the photo but since there is no exif ..I am not sure how you could improve it.

Maybe just post a little smaller size next time

600 X 800 works real well.

And while I use PS because I have it...the gimp...Irfanview...and picasa are free and elements and PSP are not real expensive.

this one would also benefit from some noise reduction - there's noticeable noise in the sky, which is a common problem with the FZ's (i often see that with my FZ20). Neat Image offers a free download "demo" version that does quite nicely, and Picture Cooler is another freeware option.

as to composition, i like the contrast and the curves, but i might have shot this in vertical format, and cropped or composed to get less of the straight top and bottom portions of the stem, and less sky on the sides...

Reklaw, Interesting shot. I think the only things I would have done differently would have been to show the top of the stalk and as Squirl indicated, taken it in a vertical format. Jim
