Great photo. While the eagles are returning to Louisiana, I have yet to see one.

Hello bootneck2, bayourebel and thekman620,

Many thanks for your kind words

Yes, I felt very fortunate to be able to capture this photo.

Here is how it went down...

I was on my usual jog and photo shoot in a park with a river and captured lots of pics then an eagle flew by but all I got was a very blurred eagle. He roosted not far away then another eagle flew by and roosted with the other! Whoa...

Awesome...I thought.

Knowing that eagles are skittish about two leggeds (humans) even those across the river, I moved slowly downstream (( was on opposite shore), raising my lens very slowly not to spook them. When I was directly across river from them, I shot the photo that resulted in this submission.

When I first looked at it, I thought...what is that? That dark smudge on the right eagle in the pic. Then I realized it...with sun coming from left of photo relatively low on the horizon later in afternoon, it was the left eagle's shadow on its mate!!!

Another whoa then hit me...I had just captured the shadow of an eagle on its mate!

Perhaps, you are all asleep by now...but just wanted to share.

Another negative "life issue" is a big distraction to me to me right now so this was really nice to see and capture on (digital) "film".

Oh yes...handheld, shooting in P mode, with FZ30 w/Olympus TCON17 at full 12x 8m optical zoom.

Here is the original pic, greatly downsized but uncropped.

Well done, Anthony. I can only guess you must have been holding your breath as you shot this one...love the grouping and expression. Beauty!
