Burst mode a great idea! (Thanks, LadyhawkVa - I will use it for aviators landing and taking off).

Also, knowing you are from Seattle area, squirl033, I though perhaps you might have photographed a US sub.

i['ll have to try burst. trouble is, these little fellasdive so quick, if i press the shutter as soon as they move, they're half-under water by the time i get the shot!

i haven't actually photographed a boomer, but now that you mention it.... it's not far to Hood Canal, and i could probably catch one on the surface on its way through the bridge... if i knew when to be there! i did see one going through once, pretty impressive sight. there were Navy wives on the bridge waving, and sub crewmembers on deck waving back... pretty cool sight.
