I swear these were taken side by side, my left hand holding the Lumix the right hand holding the T9.

The difference is night and day! I even had the ISO set at 640 on the T9 but it seems to only affect the photo mode not the video.

The T9 was set to Standard 640x480 because I didnt have a Pro Duo card but the light levels would be the same as Fine 640x480, just the smoothness would have been better, but jeez man look at the difference!

The 2.8 wide lens on the Lumix plus the mixed-pixel CCD really does make a difference!

guess nobody is impressed with the video abilities...

well here is something that no other compact digicam can do:

I couldn't sleep 1 night and so I was playing with the Lumix FX01 in the dark, so apologies for the lame picture composition but... it was a PITCH black scene even my eyes could not see the detail shown in the last shot (all scaled down to 640x480):

first shot taken with AUTO mode no flash

second shot taken with high sensitivity mode no flash

third shot taken with night scenery mode 8 sec exposure

fourth shot taken with starry sky 30 sec exposure

Hi Colonels

I've just registered to reply to your post. I ordered anFX01 this morning. But for the past few weeks I contemplated getting aT9 as well. But in the end having seen some video samples from reviews, I chose the FX01. It seemed to me the mpg files from T9 contained too many artifacts compared to the video samples I've seen from FX01.
So when I saw your post I had to smile because I haddesperately wanted to see a side by side video comparisonof these two cameras when I was researching them.

But there is a problem. I am unable to download your videos because someISPs in the Uk are incompatible with the Rapidshare method of downloading files. So is it possible that you could upload the videos to some other site? I use putfile.com to upload videos and can recommend them.

Thanks

Well, I made the right choice then. Case closed. I no longer have to worry about what I might have sacrificed (better stills quality?)in choosing Fx01. It is definiately the pixel-mixed method that is giving the Fx01 such bright videos. A slight downside to this method is you get slightly paler human faces. But that would be nit picking.

Thanks for the screenshots.

A Porsche (Carrera perhaps?) and a X5 in the garage?? No surprise that you can not sleep :idea:However, I'd rather drive away with these babies instead of playing with FX01 :G

Just kidding of course, and you're absolutely right: FX01 totally overwhelms T9 with regards to video. Also, I really appreciate the capability of darkness shots of this cam.

I supposed FZ7 will be the big gun of Pana in 2006, but it seems like this little baby will be the leading actor this season.
