Alright, here are my first few macro's using my FZ30 and Nikon 4t. I just took them on (gasp) the Auto mode because I don't really know what settings to use and just haven't really had the time to put into learning them like I had intended to do before spring. Guess I'll have to knuckle down and do it this long weekend.

And the required orchid shot (actually taken earlier):

All hand held except the orchid. All post processed in Photoshop.

I'm having trouble getting the focus nice and sharp, do most of you macro photographers use auto-focus or do it manually? Are there any quick and dirty settings I can make on the camera (metering modes, arpeture and whatnot) that will improve my pictures?

Lots of people seem to advocate an external flash, the sunpak line seems popular, is this my best bet? I saw some talk on another board about using a light ring. What is the best route to go there?

Thanks for comments, suggestions. I promise I'll get better at this
