I know that the FZ30 offers selective focus function, is there a method to get the same effect onan FZ7?Esp. since compared to the FZ5, FZ7 comes with Manual Focus.

There's an excellent example here, the photographerused a PannyFz1 (which I also have!) but I've only previously got the selective focus effect by fluke .

Also, the reason why I'mkeener onthe FZ7iscos of its size, butget the impressionthat the FZ30 allows more creativity, do you agree?

the example shot you have shown can be achieved with any cam. No need for selective focus. Just set the cam to spot focus, or centered focus and just aim to cam to the left and prime focus then while holding button move cam back to the centre and click. Same effect achieved. BUT this effect is so much easier with the ffz30 selective focusing ofcourse. makes it easier.

The fz7 does this so easy, use the spot focus like said above and your going to have a blast getting this effect.

Fz7:

In addition to normal 1-area focusing, there are 9-area focusing and 3-area focusing (hi-speed) available. These multiple area focusing modes seem to do what was asked, they somehow try to figure which part of the area the user wants to focus to. I quite didn't get how it works, I tried few times and to me it seemed quite random where the camera decided to focus. Or maybe not totally random, just uncontrollable. Of course it shows on display with the green rectangle where it focused.

I'll stick to traditional 1-area focus.
