I took these two pictures about 2 minutes apart when I was in western kansas this weekend. No post processing has been done. In the first picture the sun was shining up above the clouds, so the wheat looks lighter. It never rained where I was

In this one, the sun went behind the clouds, and I turned the camera about 10 degrees.

I really like #1. I think a little bit of PP, just to punch up the saturation and contrast a bit would be nice. Still, they're pretty good photos right out of the camera. That gives you some good material to work with. You wouldn't be salvaging mediocre photos - you'd be enhancing good ones.
