For those who dabble in Astronomy as well, I thought that I'd throw a gauntlet to those FZ30/FZ7 with the extended optical zoom to see how good of images they might get of Jupiter. The following were my attempts this evening around 8-10:00 PDT ... All with Spot AF/Spot Exposure Modes

For those with even a pair of binoculars -- its worth eyeballing Jupiter as its moons line up to approximate a mini solar system view in the SE sky just after sunset this month...

Digiscoped by 20mm eyepiece projection into my Meade reflector (700mm f/9.7)
FZ5 22mm/132mm (3X) 1/4-sec f/3.2 ISO400 100% Cropped from Original; No Post Processing

Same image with Levels Adjustments:

My best on tripod with just the FZ5 + TCON-17 at 12X...
FZ5 12X (432mm) w/TCON17 (734mm) 1.0-sec ISO400 f/3.3 100% Crop from Original no PP

FZ5 12X + TCON-17 (734mm) f/5.6, ISO400 -1.7EV 1/200-sec No PP:

Interesting pictures. As a side note, I remember reading that Jupiter's "Great Red Spot" is bigger than our Earth!
