It's a good looking camera, that's for sure! From the pictures, it appears that Sony dropped the Carl Zeiss lens in favor of the... Minolta perhaps? Interesting!

Nope not quiet there are 3 Carl Ziess lenses in the mix - a 16-80 AF lenses and 2 prime's. 20 lenses for the new alpha:

Price wise the alpha body only is $900 and $1000 as a kit.

Ouch! $900 body only? No wonder the Nikon D50 is dominating the DSLR market. Costco has it for $699, a kit with body + two lens.

A side by side comparison pic from imaging resource of the Canon 30D and D70. The Alpha looks pretty small and I think with the Carl Ziess 16-80 would be the perfect lens for it. I still prefer the look of the L1 but the alpha looks pretty tempting indeed.

I like the Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO). This is one of those missing tools in our low contrast range cameras.

The other specs are ok! I would like to test such a camera, but didn't find the $$ in my cupboard up to now.

Looking at the price of the whole system, this camera could be much cheaper than the L1.Think of allthose lenses mit optical image stabilization!
