Been to Madurai recently. This is the West entrance tower of the famous Meenakshi temple. Everything in Madurai is centered around this temple and so there is very heavy commercial exploitation of all available space, as can be seen from the sign-boards and criss-cross wires seen in this photograph. Despite the obstructions, the tower still offers a majestic view.

Lovely photos.

One of the things I love about this forum is the opportunity to see photos from different parts of the world. The tourist and history books have a relatively small selection. It's great to see what ordinary people get to see close up.

Very beautiful. I had never heard of this temple. Looked it up on Google. Ancient indeed, and quite interesting. My wife has a friend in India, that is an adopted daughter of her aunt. Her aunt was a missionary in India for many years. We are still in contact with her.

Fabulous - I can't even imagine the man hours that went into the creation of the temple.
