Long Neck - NOT BEER

Rocky Mountain Bird (long legs & long neck)

I have no idea what it is but as soon as he or she realized I was there it was gone in a hurry. One thing for sure Long necks is not just beer.

I am not happy with the photos but this thing is so different for our area I decided to keep two of them.

Hi, we have birds similar to that on Assateague Island in Virginia just over the line from where I live in Maryland. I go there quite a bit as it is a national wildlife refuge. I Like the picture...looks like home to me. Donna

That is a bird out of its element. Looks something like the tricolored heron. But these birds are mostly coastal marsh birds. Nice capture roger.

Hi Jerry, thanks for checking out my post. I have no idea what it is. All I know is I hadn't seen any like them before.

Looking at the bird again, it is most probably the Great Blue Heron, maybe in a state of molt. The GBH is the only one I can find that is native to your area. Now I could be wrong, but I am looking in Birds of North America, Smithsonian Handbooks.

It is a Great Blue Heron and they are known to do some serious traveling although mostly along the coast and over states like Ala. Tenn, La and Ga. I have a friend in Ky who got a shot of one at a local lake outside of Louiville on June of 2000. They are powerfull flyers and can eat fish whole.
