Default 45-175mm lens, why does it need a higher ISO compared to my 14-42mm lens

Recently bought a Panasonic DMC-GX1 with the two Power Vario Lens.

When shooting images I see that the 45-175mm lens requires a Higher ISO compared to the wider lens(18-42mm)

Is this normal or is there something wrong with the tele lens.

the 45-175 has a maximum aperture of f/4 while the 14-42 has a wider aperture of f/3.5, which means it lets in more light.

The aperture differences are minimal. The main difference is the higher magnification at longer focal lengths.

As you zoom towards 175mm, if you do not raise the shutter speed, which means a higher ISO, it becomes harder to hold the camera steady enough for a sharp shot, even with OIS, so yes, when using longer lenses having to raise the ISO at some point is inevitable for hand-held shooting.
