Great photos! Love the last one with the fence; especially!

the dof with the 70-300 is quite nice. How close where you with the 14-45 and the raynox 250.

Think the 70-300 with a 500D would give you a really nice macro setup. And good working distance.

Those photos look very good, Sally-

I especially like the bird on the edge of the birdbath.

You moving along nicely. I am anxious to get my GF1 delivered. So I can also get started.

Thanks Carol and Sarah!

Sho - I was probably about 10cm away from the subject. My only concern with 70-300mm + 500D is that since the lens is Olympus, there is no image stabilization. Not sure if I can hold the camera steady enough without a tripod.

shoturtle Jan 10, 2011 3:36 PM

yeah that could be an issue if you max zoom but if you are at 150 it is not that bad. I have turn off the IS on my 45-200 on the body and lens by mistake, and under 150 it is possible to hand hold. But with the short end at 70mm the 500D will still give you very good close up with the oly lens. There is no way you can use a 250 on the 70-300 without a tripod, IS would not be as effective either.

wonderful shots.lovely..specially the bird..! just curious about the zoom capabilities bet'n fz35 and gf1, how much difference does it make with 300mm lens..?

saly Jan 11, 2011 10:03 AM

Thanks Geoff, DML and Jim.

Jim - The magnification capability is the same at 300mm, but the GF1 with the Olympus lens is sharper. But that's not a fair comparison because this lens alone costs the same as the entire FZ35. Considering that, I think FZ35 does very well. Here's a side by side comparison:

FZ35 at full zoom (notice the birds are grainy):
