What adapter would one need to use a Canon 50mm 1.8 with the G3?

It depends on what Canon lens you are looking at...FD or EOS. They require different adapters.

There are at least 3 types and maybe 4, depending on which lens you have.

The FD and EOS versions for models with aperture rings, then an EOS model that has an aperture ring built in for the newer models, and I think a screw mount version like the old Pentax m42.

This is a US site that shows them conveniently for reference. rainbowimaging(dot)biz

Be careful of the specs/details they list as they are somewhat generic. I'd provide a direct link, but I don't know if that's permissible here. Fotodiox is another supplier in the US with a nice site for reference. They're both just re-branded versions of the E-bay adapters. Between the two sites you can usually determine the differences in models.

Here's one of many adapters sold on eBay...
