Default Permanent service mode help Panasonic G1

can anyone help a friend wanted to discover the shutter count of an ebay purchase.

They got into service mode ok, but now they get the yellow triangle exclamation mark every time they power down, which suggests it's in permanent (rather than temporary) service mode.

How do they get out of this please? (firmware 1.5). Happy to reset to factory if necessary.

The Reset to default in the G1 should be in the Setup menu (the little wrench) on page 2. It has a little wrench with an R beside it. All the settings go back to default except the time/date and picture number.

You might want to remove the battery for a few minutes also.

I can't remember the last time I had the exclamation point icon come up. If that doesn't work, I'll have to dig through my links and references or check with the guys at Dpreview for the answer.

Thankyou . We tried resetting it and taking the battery out . Even tried going back in and doing another shutter count incase we did the sequence wrong but , that didn't work same sequence getting in and out of the service section . Still the yellow triangle exclamation mark . I would be greatfull if you could help find the answer .
Did yours come up after doing the shutter count too ?

Spent most of yesterday looking for answers

I just had a glitch that removing the battery cured. I have no idea what I did. It was a fluke.

Here is the link that I referred to:

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/post/38512238

All I could find is the mention of repeating the 2 steps and then powering down to go back to normal. If you don't repeat those steps, the camera stays in the service mode.

And then there is this:

I don't know which sequence of commands you used but if it was not the one below, I suggest you try this one as it might take the camera out of the state it's in.

Should you want to, you can find out the number of times
you have switched on your G1/GH1
and the number of times you have pressed the shutter -
by doing the following.
(N.B. Its complicated but it does work )
1. Switch off camera
2. Switch to Single Shot Mode
3. Press "Film Mode" and "Display" together, hold these
4. Switch on camera, release the buttons after a short while.
5. Press "Menu/Set" and "left arrow" together, hold them, ignore the display
6. In addition(!) press 2 times "Film Mode"
Now you should see the history of problems with date and a code, up to 16 items.
7. Press "Menu/Set" and "left arrow" together once again and hold them
8. another additional press on "Film Mode" and you see a screen with 3 counters:
No.:
PWRCNT: counts the "switch on's"
SHTCNT: counts use of the shutter
Do No's. 7 and 8 again and it will bring you back to normal operation.

Hello,

Haven't been online for a while, but have recently acquired a lovely Panny G1 so hoping to re-kindle interest in photography.

Have searched a number of threads on this over the past few days and my problem is that the camera does indeed revert to normal shooting mode after following the button press sequence, but when I turn off & back on again reverts to service mode. (Indicated by yellow triangle on shutdown.)

Anyone else encountered & overcome this problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,
Spoonbill1970.

All I've ever found are the previously mentioned links and procedures related to the G1.

Ha!
Managed to fix it!

I downloaded service manual from http://elektrotanya.com/panasonic_dm.../download.html
Click on "Get Manual" just under the preview picture.

I then followed the initialization steps on page 10 & 11.
(Before starting procedure, I had to look at the plate at the bottom of my camera and match the symbols to the table at the bottom of page 11 to decide which model I have.)

Hope this helps someone!

Enjoy your photograpy.
