I have recently purchased the S5i and I'm having trouble getting good, clear portrait photos. They generally seem a little fuzzy to me, even in portrait mode. I have played around with the varoius settings and don't know whether it is the auto focus, focusing area, EV compensation or something else.
Can someone tell me what settings (either preset or manual) gives them their clearest portrait photos? Everyone seems to be so thrilled with the clarity of the photos, but I'm struggling. I have the settings set to highest resolution, but that hasn't really helped. I have twins arriving in less than two weeks and won't have time to sort this out after that!! TIA! |
I have the same camera with a new baby and had best luck using the macro mode (not super macro) indoors during the day with fill flash turned on.Get some sleep while you can.p.s. upgrading to a dSLR to get baby action photos.

Hi there - congrats on the new arrival! I have a S5i and indeed the images seem a bit soft - in portrait mode, the S5i actually sets the sharpness to soft. I agree that the macro mode may help a bit. You can also try manually increasing the sharpness setting, but you will probably still have soft edges. As with any hi res picture, you want to view it full screen to hide the 'up close' flaws. I recommend the free and light weight Irfanview - just hit returnafter you open the image.
Take care |
