If you have lenses or accessories for one or the other then it's an easy decision. I've just spent the afternoon with a friend whose bought the EOS 300D, (the 10D's little brother) because he has some Canon Lenses. I'm on the point of buying the *istD because I'm a long term Pentax user. I don't think you'd go far wrong with either of them.
I always give the same advice - try the camera out before parting with your money. If the reviews say it is the best camera on the market but the controls don't find themselves under your fingers then you'll miss shots while you're trying to find the setting, and you won't enjoy using the camera. Personally I think the Pentax ergonomics are marginally better - e.g. the positioning of the control wheel and shutter button - Canon have the wheel in behind, Pentax infront - so you don't have to take your index finger off the shutter button and you work the wheel with the middle finger. Depends what you like.
