Except for missing out on the optical zoom I think its strange that no comparison have been made between these two cameras. Many people buy the S4/S4i because of the small sizeand the Canon is actually smaller. By sample pics I think the Canon beats the Pentax quite often but I can be wrong. Anyone who have tried both in reality?

Being without optical zoom is another way of taking picures, yes? Frankly, when I travel with my SLR, I often put a fix focal length lens on it, e.g. 24mm or 50mm. Many famous photographers used 35mm lens at almost all their work. Being fixed focual length, you are forced to look at objects in another way, sort of speak. And, even more positive, the lens can be even smaller, or much sharper, than a zoom lens.
Having said all that, for a point-and-shoot digital like these two small cameras, the Optio S(4/4i) is special because of they have a 3x optical zoom packed into a 20mm thick body! For a point-and-shoot bring-everywhere camera, this is quite incredible even for year 2004! The choice is up to you! ![]() Arne |

Why compare to the SD10 why not the SD110 or the SD100 - I am looking at those to buy as I am gonna replace my S4i.
