I tried out my new toy, a Sigma 135-40mm DG zoom on my DS.

Its a heavy lens despite the comapct size.

The rear focusing takes a bit of getting used to, but it does mean a polarising filter stays put when focusing.

The ship is the latest and largest wave piercing ferry from Incat, and this is part of their ship yard on the Derwent River.

Nothing wrong with that shot.

Mind you, it is a biiig boat!

BTW, what is the rear focussing?

The focus element is towards the rear of the lens, so the focusing ring is behind the zoom ring.

Ok. That must be confusing when switching between lenses.

I have only had the lens one day so the novelty of the unusual position has not worn off yet.

Particularly as I used autofocus for many of the shots, however it did seem strange to occasinally feel the focusing ring moving as I recomposed and zoomed.

This is still supposed to be a "budget" lens but so far I am happy with it.
