Walter,

If tokina comes out with a 4/3 version of this lens, you just need to get the 4/3 to m4/3 adapter. But with the crop factor of 2 vs 1.6 the tokina will not be as wide as you expect. The panny 7-14 will be much wider on the G1.

Yes, but the Panny is twice the price of the Tokina, and right now, I cannot even afford the Tokina, let alone the Panny....:o

Lets put it another way. For the price of the Panny 7-14 I could buy a D5000 + the Tokina....

Yup that is a very expensive lens. I was looking at the panny m4/3 macro lens for my soon to purchase EP-2, it was 900 dollars. I decide if I get the EP-2 or GF1 I will get the adapter and get the oly 35mm 3.5 macro instead, the 2 would cost only 300 dollars. And still have full auto. The panny lenses are very expensive.

Have you consider something like the zukio 9-18mm or sigma 10-20mm 4/3 lenses with the panny adapter for the G1? I know it is not as bright, but very wide though.

Interesting idea, but:
As far as I know, Sigma only makes the 10-20mm for either Canon-, Nikon-, Pentax- and Alpha-mount.: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/buy/SL...196+4291220258 I have never heard or seen this lens with a 4/3rd mount....? Have you?

As for the Zuiko 9-18mm I dont't know the Olympus-lenses all that good. Would it's AF and metering work on my G1 with a Panasonic to 4/3rds adapter? I think not entirely....?

BTW - I don't know how long we can go on and use the hospitality of the Pentax lens-forum to discuss Tokina vs Sigma / Zuiko. I hope we are not trodding on somebody's toe her.

In that case, I apologize!
:o

But then, this is the way many threads on Internet-forum goes - On starts out within one specific item, and before you know, you are somewhere else, entirely. :crazy1:

this is the better 10-20 from sigma too, even though its not constant f3.5 it has less distortion/vignette

Yes all the features of the 4/3 lens will be fully available on the g1 body. I went to a camera shop and confirmed it as I am seriously planning to get a m4/3 travel camera for the wife.

Here is a link to the sigma for the oly

Also zuikos makes some fantastic lens. Very high quality, and super light. I would serious look into the 4/3 to m4/3 mount form panny. And look at some of the oly lenses and the sigma.

It is true that you can get adapter mounts for a m4/3 to uses nikon, canon fe, and pentax lenses. You will not have auto features.

No offense taken walter, I just happen to live in a city that is huge on camera gear. And I get access to allot of info. Glad I could share some of the info with you. It may help on your next lens decision or new body upgrade.

So, ther really is a Sigma 10-20mm with 4/3rds mount - interesting! I didn't know that.

Thank you both, Dustin and Shoturtle, for this helpful info and the links!

I'm pretty sure Sigma is the only third-party lens maker to built lenses with a four-thirds mount. If I'm not mistaken, there's one other lens in Sigma's lineup for four-thirds:
