Check ebay on a regular basis. I bought the lens about 2 1/2 momths ago on ebay from a Camera Shop that put it up as new old stock. Not as sharp as my Sigma 100-300mm, F4, but much more convinient to cary with you.

I have been lookingto buysomething above 300mm for my air show addiction. Would any of you with direct experience recomend the Tokina AT-X 80-400mm above 400mm? One said it was rather soft above 300 but I would expect to be shooting at f8 most of the time. Seems like a very compact and (relatively) inexpensive choice.

I seem to find myself almost happy at 300 so I feel 400 would do the job for me. The only othertwo I have consideredare the Sigma 135-400 or 50-500. However both of those seem to be considerably larger and heavier.

Hi,

The only other choice you have is the Sigma 80-400mm. Now if they only lowered the price.... I am curious to see what the Phoenix/Cosina 100-400mm pics look like.

Rudy
Rudy, I have been using the Phoenix/Cosina 100-400 for about three months and I really like it. It's certainly not the top performer, but for a budget AF zoom, it's pretty good.

Several came up on ebay recently and sold for over 600 dollars. I bought a copy (second model) from KEH awhile back for around 400 and think it is a very sharp lens and have no problem with shooting at 400mm and having good results. It is a shame they discontinued this lens in Pentax mount.
Perhaps someone will offer up some new long lenses soon.
