Hi all –

I am finally ready to get a faster lens ,

soas a little backround to what I will use it for -

One daughter plays softball and the other plays violin so conditions vary

. Day, night, inside and out-

I was thinking of a Sigma 70-200 F2.8 APO and can not find one anywhere

Ebay, KEH, google search, sigma 4 less?

No real local choices Wolf\Ritzs or Durys- one says no

" high end "Pentax ,other stopped carrying Pentax.

What other choices can you recommend?

Would love that 50-500mm but may not be able to stretch $$$ that far

600-800 dollar range

Also looked at Sigma 105mmF2.8 Macro .

Any alternatives or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Chris

YOU MIGHT CALL b&h AND SEE WHEN THEY WILL HAVE IT in stock

the 50-500 is definately not a fast lens.

roy
edit; THE SIGMA 105MM F2.8 is a super sharp lens and also a very good 1:1 macro.

Shouldn't take that long. It is just temp supply issue after sales surge in Christmas

See my thread on it. One heck of a great lens. Maybe maginally inferior to the used FA* at the extreme end. FA* is also heavier of the two

I should have bought that. Instead I went all prime lens incl FA100mm2.8 & FA135mm.

Expand this pict to its full size (but still 250K). It was a strictly indoor (low light , handheld & casual )portrait shot. Drop dead gorgous color. I suggest you do not look at it unless you have cleared your visa bill this month.

Let B&H email you when it is in stock

Daniel

That lens is probably not long enough for softball or fast enough for a concert.
If the softball is during the day and you can get close to your violin playing daughter then a sigma70-300mmAPO and a 50mmf1.8 will be a lot cheaper than the 70-200f2.8 and better for what you want to use them for.
The 70-200 is a great lens and a much better piece of kit than either of the above but the two things you want to shoot are so different in what they demand from gear there simply is no point in trying to find one lens to do both.
