I've been looking for a 300mm lens and came across the Takumar 1:4/300 screw mount . Is anyone familiar with this lens?

The lens has an Auto/Manual switch. Will it really autofocus if this switch is set to Auto?If so, will the autofocus capability be retained if I use an adapter to mount the lens on my K100D?

Can I use it with a Tamron 1.4x AF teleconverter? I assume in this case, the adapter ring would go between the lens and the teleconverter - is that correct?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Robar - I did a little more searching after I posted the question and found an explanation of the "Auto diaphragm" setting on screw mount lenses. On thinking about it a little more, I realized thatmy originalpost disproved the old axiom about there being no such thing as a dumb question.

Anyway, I really appreciate you taking the time to help out.

I had this lens with my Spotmatic and it was very sharp and had great contrast.

The switch only operates the diaphram from auto to manual, although the pin on the lens wil not operate with the M42 adapter. Even if you could mount it without an adapter the K mount cameras would not hit the pin properly to operate the diaphram.

It will work with a TC, but will not AF except with the AF Pentax 1.7 TC.
