Since People were asking at the main Pentax forum about this lens I realized I had some pictures of this old model on my website. It is definitely an odd and rare lens. I picked it up for very little on eBay about a year ago, but I have never seen another one since.

Originally it came with a Y/S mount and Nikon AI adapter, but I modified it and now it is a T mount lens with a K Mount adapter. I just love tinkering around with old stuff like that, specially when the results are rewarding. The sharpness of this lens amazes me every time - specially at the long end.

This one is with a matching 2x converter that I found in a antique camera store.

Wow! At last someone else who owns this cool lens! I had never found another copy of it until now!

I picked this up off ebay a while back for my minolta:

I too find it to be good, although I don't use a TC with it.

Regards,

Sam

Here is a link to a thread with some images of hummingbirds. All were taken with the Polaris 55-300mm.

Well, I am kind of deep into my pocket right now, having just picked up a Tokina 100-300mm f/4. So, if another Pentaxian is looking for an example this Polaris lens, there is a screw mount example here:

Greetings! I actually just won an ebay auction for this lens (along with some other Minolta gear) and this thread seems to be some of the best info I found about it. Apparently it is rare. The M42 povlab site doesn't even have it listed. Anyway, I have two questions: What filter size does it take? And how difficult was the T-Mount Mod? Though I am a Minolta manual focus user, I do prefer the EOS system and this lens would be fantastic adapted to that.

The T-Mount mod is not too difficult, I now have mine set up for Canon EF mount.

The end bascially screws off. Take out all the screws on the minolta mount then you can see the ring that converts the T-mount to the minolta mount. Mine was so stuck on I had to grind it off. Then I just fitted a T-Mount adapter for canon.

There is one problem. The aperture is only activated when the little pin is pushed down. The t-mount adapter does not do this. So I fitted a little piece of wire round the pin to keep it pushed down. Now I just set the aperture and shoot pictures.

here is a picture from today using this lens:

Cheers, Sam

Hi,

I have this lens (300mm Polaris) that I'm selling for a family member. I just put it up on ebay. Here's the link;

http://cgi.ebay.com/Polaris-300mm-le...QQcmdZViewItem

Please let me know if there is anything about this lens I forgot to mention. I have very little info on it.

Also, what would it take to adapter this to my old 35mm Rebel EOS from 1993?

Thanks
