I am looking for a decent lens to shoot some indoor sporting events such as basketball and ran across a decent price on a Tokina 28-70mm f2.8 lens and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this piece of glass. How soft is it wide open? Ayone have any comparison shots?

style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #000000"Also, Does anyone know how this compares to the sigma version?

I am curious too. On paper , it is fast. Nobody responds. Is that a bad choice andno one like to bad month it? Or a rare lens nobody has any knowledge?

I have this lens, an ebay purchase at a good price from a wedding photog (film)who used it as his main lens, indoor and out, for several years. Switched to Canon when he went digital. Constant f/2.8, sharp throughout the zoomrange, great contrastand very fast to autofocus on my Ds. Made of metal and built like the proverbial tank, which leads to its only con...it's heavy.

It was my walkabout lens until that job was filled firstby an FA 28-105 3.2-4.6 (sold) and now a DA 50-200. Its one of those lenses that I will never sell as long as I'm shooting Pentax.

Highly recommended,
Lou

I have one too, and used it for weddings until I got the FA* 28-70. I have not used it in quite while but it is a good lens.

Where the hell can you find this lens?? It's one of my choices along with the tamron 28-75mm 2.8, and the sigma 28-70mm 2.8.

Can't speak for the ToKina, but was quite happy with same F range/mm SIGMA on my Canon Rebel. (unless you mean a high end 2.8 throughout range lens)

The lens I am talking about is f/2.8 through out the range.

I believe they made only one version that was 2.8 throughout the zoom range, the others varied a bit and was 2.8-2.6.
