I am interested in macro quality, focus speed and if it could be used effectively for portraits also. How about a comparison to the Sigma 105mm? Any photos or comments are appreciated. Thanks

Optically, I think that all the top @100mm 1:1 macros are pretty equal (very very good). Where the D FA 100 2.8 macro shines is its light weight compared to all the others. In the end, this is the main reason that I chose this model as I planned on shooting mostly handheld in good light, or with a flash.

I had this lens among pretty much every other Macro lens in the 100mm range.

It is sharper than the Sigma 105mm EX (I had the non GD version). It is small and light and the focusing was always accurate on my D and DS. I didn't care about the built quality and ended up selling it after extensive pixepeeping and comparing with the Kiron/Lester Dine/Series1 105mm MF lens. Never used Autofocus in Macro anyway.

Nevertheless, the DFA 100 is a great lens and will satisfy all your Macro needs.
