Does anyone have any views or experience on the relative merits/value formoneyof the

Pentax 18-55mm (cheapest) vs 18-35mm vs 16-45mm (dearest)...

(to be used on a K10D).

The 16-45 gets lots of good reviews - but is substantially more expensive; and I wonder if it will get superceded by the upcoming 16-50 DA*.

BTW has anyone seen any projected pricing on the new DA* lenses yet??

There seems to be an echo in here here.

Dup posts (word for word) are really necessary?

Kit the only choice is the 18-55mm, vs is the much more money and body only worth the cost.

Again how critical your needs in how often critical situations demanding it?

Here they are offering three different 'kits' - with the aforementioned lenses, increasing in price of course...

I have to decide in the next couple of hours whether to keep the 18-35 or trade ittowardsthe 16-45, so was just trying to maximise my chances of getting some responses before I have to go back to the camera store.

I understand the situation. You live in Australia. There the Pentax Distributor is also the Sigma Distributor for Australia, so oftentimes Sigma brand lenses are offered in place of Pentax lenses.

If these lens choices are indeed Pentax branded lenses, the the Pentax 16-45mm is obviously the best choice, straightaway!

Thanks Sarah.

Yes, the Australian Pentax distributor is offering local dealers a variety of 'kit' options - including the standard pentax 'kit' (ie the 18-55) as well as some of thedearer mid-range pentax zooms (eg the FAJ 18-35 and the 16-45) and also various other sigma configurations...

I am thinking I will trade the 18-35 for the 16-45 and pay the extra (the dealer has given me a two week extension to make my mind up - the main pity being I don't know if I will be well enough in the next two weeks to take many pictures and make a proper assessment on my currrent lens anyway...)

Though I do wish the new pentax 16-50 was already available so I could assess it too. Probablygoing to be out of my price range anyway, I suppose... sigh :O

Cheers,
DC
