Couldn't resist, these shots are at minimum focus distance and maximum aperture. *istDS with a split image focus screen.

Love your first one though the second one is very good, too. Gotta get out with mine more and just play with it - haven't been doing that enough lately, and it's such a nice lens (as you've proved here).

Have you compared yours to any of the other 50mm lenses?

Ira,

I absolutely love that second picture. I have to agree that the pentax 50mm 1.7 is a must have lens!

Good work Ira. There is beauty everywhere but it is not always easy to find. You are not only good at taking pictures, but you "see" pictures well, too.

Nice shot Ira,
Unlike the 1st one , you have the whole face in focus. If you tilted that at an angle, only part of it would be within the paper thin DoF.
You gave the lens a good workout wide open man

Very nice. Now that Basketball season is over, I'm just now starting to play with my f2 50mm A lens.

Ira,

Just got an F version of F1.7. That should be interesting comparing that with my FA version 1.4. Got a Pentax film AF body too for my Zenitar to be a full fisheye. Can't wait for them.
