See the full press release here: http://www.tamron.co.jp/en/news/rele...0307_a001.html

Here's a quick list of features:
- 0.95m (37.4) MFD over the Entire Zoom Range for 1:3.1 Maximum Magnification Ratio
- Soft Out-of-Focus Effect and Sharp Depiction
- Lightweight, Yet Fast F/2.8 Maximum Aperture
- Internal Surface Coatings Minimize Ghosting and Flare
- Detachable Tripod Grip Ring

Could this len be a direct competitor to Sigma's 70-200mm coming out for the Pentax mount? It's nice to see the list of available lenses growing for Pentax.

Hey an I am not a lens FANATIIC but seems a whole lot of comprises for what it might yield (of no dedicated format shooting) for cost.

Specific specialized needs might always over ride that/

Hi Illuminati,

If the optical performance is there, I'd think that it'll beat the pants off the Sigma. It looks to be about a half lb lighter minimum compared to any of the others that have been made, and the @ 3' Min Focusing Distance would be pretty sweet. The soft focus feature would make it a potentially great long to very long portrait lens. I'll be seriously tempted if this lens tests out well and is priced under a grand. I'm sure some will downgrade it for build quality, but if it's like the SP 28-75 XR Di as they stated, It'll be fine with me.
