Hi, another lens question.

I see that as old prime wide angle lense there is only the 28mm.

Is it better ( even if it's like a 40mm) than the kit zoom at 18mm?

Do u recommend getting one for landscape, or better stick to the kit one until i can afford a sigma 10-20 ?

a 28mm will be the same as 28mm on the kit lens. which would be a 42mm.i think the sigma 10-20 is a fisheye(maybe wrong) but the pentax 12-24 is a rectilinear and it's got my full fledged attention.

the sigma seems to be very good, and quite cheaper.

I think there is one post about it, not so old.

My main concern is a quality one, between a fixed focal lentgh like a 28mm, or the kit lens.

I own at one time M28mmF3.5 and currently I have FA28mmF2.8. Both are sharp. And the M28mm may probably be available at around $50-90 used. Before FA28mm2.8 was discontinued, I bought that new at around $230 2 yrs ago. It is not that they will get high premium now. Just that very few is available.
Mind you it is not exactly very wide as it is almost like 42mm (normal) in 35mm.

I have this taken wide open with a FA28mm at F2.8. As seen, a waitress was taking this pict for a dinner party and I was stuck at the end of a table.

thanks guys,

from what i see a 28mm is not really worth to buy, not wide enough and at this point the kit lens is sharp enough and wider.

The big difference would be a 10-20, really wide, but at the moment not affordable.

Thanks again for the ready and precise answers i always get on this forum.

here's a couple of shots with a M28mm f2.8
it is sharper than the kit lens but suffers from the crop factor.

my print copy of the second does not have the buildings on the right or the gal by the tree on the left.

Beautiful pictures.

But I just don't think it justify to have an extra lens for what has to offer compared to the kit lens.

This crop factor sometime is a big %$%$% in the %&&%%..........
